As the multi-colour lights in Gilded Balloon’s Debating Hall dim, 12th Impressions begins. After taking the stage, Alistair McGowan checks in with his audience and introduces himself with an amusing anecdote on his own heritage. He then engagingly takes us through his show.
12th Impressions is an intelligent series of humorous impressions interconnected through observational wit and satirical notion. Impeccable impressions include Scotland’s beloved tennis pro and Britain’s new foreign secretary.
Though McGowan directly states that he isn’t a political comedian, he sets himself apart through his ability to pick up on his crowd’s political opinions and use it to tailor to his audience’s humour. The show is very successful in entertaining and making us laugh, but it may be less so for non-British audience members due to it’s purely British references.
Alistair McGowan: 12th Impressions is a show of impression bits on Brits that will leave you in stitches.
