Review: Nick Helm’s I Think, You Stink! at Assembly Roxy
5★★★★★

If you’re on the hunt for an enthralling, unpredictable and all-out hilarious show this Fringe, look no further than Nick Helm’s I Think, You Stink!

From the five cast members zombie walking down the stairs to open the show, to a hallucinating scene entitled ‘Hypno-Zone’ which sees giant inflatable eyeballs launched into the audience whilst a banana jumps up and down on a trampoline and a whisk gets paraded around the stage, this show has it all and really captures the madness of the festival.

It’s reminiscent of Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place meets Little Shop of Horrors with its flawless 80’s b-movie aesthetic and mock horror.

Written by Nick Helm, this show doesn’t mirror his unhinged, full-on trademark solo hour’s, its beauty lies in the cohesion of the cast who all play key roles and you’d think had been performing the musical for years.

Katie Pritchard, Rob Kemp, Jenny Bede, Sooz Kempner and Helm himself play their various roles expertly; some feat when you consider they’ve all got their own shows running alongside this all month. A particularly memorable scene involving Kemp as ‘The Tesco Chain-Store Manager’ sees him go on a violent rampage with his clipboard backed with a genius spoken word performance, even unsuspecting audience members weren’t safe from the wrath of the clipboard.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a show involving Nick Helm if he didn’t dance around the stage in Lycra at some point. His catsuit Satan routine to see out the show raised the roof on what was a flawless hour of comedy from a true mastermind and a Fringe treasure.

Nick Helm’s I Think, You Stink! at Assembly Roxy Upstairs, until 25 Aug (not 12th) 9:45 pm
