Dave Gibson is a multi-award-winning stand-up comedian who won second best joke of the festival last year, amongst other acclaimed titles. Charlie Talbot is best known for playing an ex-banker with an oompah band. It’s pretty clear these guys are mates. The natural rhythm is very comfortable in an engaging way.
The show is basically an audience participation sort-of game show, with red and blue cards to hold up like in Ready Steady Cook, bingo, darts and pub nibbles. They down pints and reenact classic scenes from Corrie and East Enders. They’ve got punch after punch of bad jokes referencing cities across England. Oh yeah, and they kind of neglect Scotland, surely a more relevant divide. Oops, indeed. But I say stick with what you know. If they are who they say they are, which they seem to be, they should chat about that. Thumb’s still up.
This show is like being at the pub with lad mates, silly lad mates with a nice sense of humour. A lot of the audience was laughing all the way through. And the guy they got to stand up and do the boxing-match-style introduction was hilarious. It’s hard to tell whether these things are set up or not, but I think it was chance.
These lads are very funny and charming, but I can’t go throwing stars around, alright? This was a tough one because I have already caught the festival cough and it hurts to laugh so I was guiltily sitting restrained.
