This cheeky trio, less commonly known as Graeme Rooney, Paul Charlton and Kevin O’Loughin, enjoyed a sell-out run on the Edinburgh Fringe last year, and, with two shows on offer this time around, 2011 looks set to be just as successful. The Ginge, the Geordie and the Geek: All New Show is targeted as a family show that is rammed with silliness but has forsaken the swear words.
Consisting of thirty-four sketches, three hundred twelve costume changes and three pairs of pants, this show is as face-paced and as changeable as the Scottish weather. It is puerile perhaps but joyously un-pretentious: prepare to see one little piggy and the big bad wolf in reconciliation therapy, Mr Tumnus slut his way around bedroom wardrobes, mime junkies, pesky cleaners and men riding brooms into the thick of battle.
With sketches hitting you one straight after the other, it is easy to adopt a love-‘em-or-leave-‘em approach. This comes as a relief as many of the sketches fall short of the funny mark and serve only as slapstick padding between wittier jests. A smile and chuckle are sustained pretty much the whole way through the show, but side-splitting laughs are less common. An hour of fun frolics are, however, a given.
