alt‘The Man of 10,000 voices’ – it might sound like a ridiculously arrogant and unrealistic claim to make, but the title of Michael Winslow’s show isn’t far off the mark. The star of Police Academy (the aptly named ‘Sergeant Motor Mouth’) opens his act with an impressive one-man acapella comedy band. This show is perhaps worth seeing just to hear a human morph into a radio, a television, Snoop Dog and Jimi Hendrix - just to name a few.

It’s just a shame that Winslow’s noises are far more entertaining than his jokes. The show ticks over with his staid comedy and slightly outdated references to Star Wars and American TV shows that don’t quite translate to a young British audience. However, the hour passes quickly and you’re guaranteed to walk out smiling with the knowledge that you have seen a show you couldn’t find anywhere else on the Fringe.

Or anywhere Michael Winslow is not, for that matter. “I love making noises,” says Winslow, before proceeding to demonstrate how he puts his talent to good use; from pranks on aeroplanes, to scaring crack kids in supermarkets and teaching the audience how to avoid ever having to pay for a supermarket shop. Winslow’s imitations are so impressive that they don’t even sound like imitations but the thing itself. His renditions of every type of music and instrument are nothing short of amazing and the show ends on a high with a note-perfect rendition of a beloved and classic song.
