altLashings of talent all under one roof being streamed live can only mean one thing: Radio 1 is in town and ready to unleash their ‘Fun and Filth Cabaret’ on Edinburgh’s Fringe crowd and the nation at large.

Dressed to the nines in suitable ringmaster garb, Nick Grimshaw and Scott Mills will be your delectable hosts for the next four evenings, bringing you the best acts the Fringe has to offer. And, just to begin with, The Hoff is getting in on the act as guest host.

Opening night went off quite literally with a bang, with the first performer hammering a spoon into her nose before serving herself a cuppa to the tune of ‘A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down:’ a memorable start you could say. Next was comedy courtesy of the brilliant Daniel Sloss, music from Bella Vida, Axis of Awesome and Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer, and hula-hooping from a fantastic transvestite in a spangling green thong. Even the Ladyboys of Bangkok were eagerly waiting in the wings.

The jam-packed line-up kept the momentum going even when less entertaining acts took to the stage (sorry Bella Vida). This was further helped by the promise of a duet between Scott Mills and David Hasselhoff; the one-time-only rendition of ‘Guy Love’ between the pair was endearing, but perhaps not quite the big finish you might have hoped for.

With big names booked in until the final show on the 19th August, this mélange of the weird and wonderful, courtesy of the BBC, is likely to pull in the crowds, so get your ticket now. And, should a ticket elude you, just tune into Radio 1 at 11pm or press your red button to watch it live from the comfort of your very own home.
