altWalking into the beautiful surroundings of Assembly's new venue in Princes Street Gardens feels like escaping out of the madness of the festival into a more tranquil and peaceful kind of world. This delightful setting is perfect for former Cirque du Soleil clown Julien Cottereau and his joyful solo show, Imagine-Toi.

From his dramatic entrance a packed crowd is bewitched by this master of mime. He has the ability to use his body and voice to create routines that are nothing short of stunning – from skipping with bubblegum to chasing a bee around the stage. His slightly zany personality has been compared to Harpo Marx and Charlie Chaplin, and those compliments are well deserved. Such old fashioned family fun is enjoyed by everyone, especially the kids who get involved in the ball-throwing and on-stage football.

The show takes a slightly sinister turn when a wild dog appears on stage and a monster attacks but there is never anything too terrifying for the young members of the crowd. This is a master of entertainment whose emotive, expressive and energetic performance is a delight to watch. He leaves us with a flying kiss, and all festival-goers will find something to fall in love with if they buy a ticket for this show.
