I’ve been a fan of Amanda Palmer since I was about 13, following her through the days of the Dresden Dolls, Amanda F****** Palmer and now Evelyn Evelyn. I’ve been to just about every gig she’s done in Edinburgh; I saw one years ago in Cabaret Volitare when Jason Webley was her support act. I’ve spent Edinburgh Festivals since spreading the gospel of The Drinking Song, when he got the audience to raise a glass and spin 'round and 'round. Evelyn Evelyn is Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley wearing a two-body dress, pretending to be Siamese twins and playing their instruments correspondingly one-handed. They’re prolific, charismatic, charming and a smoldering duo. Get on Youtube and find out what all the fuss is about. It evokes the beguiled teenager deep inside us all.
Every show is different so it’s a bit pointless trying to describe what I saw too much. They played my favourite, “You Only Want Me ‘Cause You Want My Sister”. At the end of the one-hour set in Assembly they announced an impromptu gig at The Forest Café, which I went to as well (seriously, I can’t get enough of it, I’m a creep… yes, she does a cover of that Radiohead song, too, it’s brilliant). They are serious about causes and the greater good – they gave an amazing fundraiser for saving The Forest.
Amanda is also an avid Twitterer, follow her, and like me, you’ll be seduced into creepy fandom.
