Review: Dandy Darkly’s All Aboard! at Underbelly Bristo Square

The world cannot always be sparkly, fun and full of glitter, yet a trip aboard Dandy Darkly’s infamous Gaybird Steamer will make you believe otherwise. Though not for long…

All the way from New York City, Darkly returns to this years Fringe for another hauntingly beautiful night full of harrowingly compelling fairy tales that are bound to lurk in the recesses of your mind long after the show ends. Darkly’s horror tales take us on a journey in which we meet our everyday protagonists: consumerism, racism, social media, technology and all round capitalism, all cunningly disguised behind the masks of beauty shops, robots, spider Gods and inbred circus freaks, to name a few.

Darkly’s expressive prose is full of fantastic imagery and depth which is only heightened by his charismatic performance and delivery and the ingenious original soundtrack that brings the magic to this late night show. The pace of the hour never suffers, not even in the quiet calculated moments when the audience is so captivated by Darkly’s every word that you could hear a pin drop.

All Aboard! is Edgar Allan Poe meets the Brothers Grimm. It is a spectacular storytelling performance that is completely distinctive. If you are looking for a show that will emotionally haunt you and intellectually dare you, Dandy Darkly’s All Aboard! is the ride of a lifetime.

Dandy Darkly’s All Aboard!, Underbelly Bistro Square, 2-27 Aug (not 13), 11.10pm
