Review: Joey Page: Perhaps Under Stars That Would Stretch Forever (an Idiot Explains the Universe in Under an Hour) at The Tron
4★★★★

Popping up from the audience, Joey Page starts this show off as he means to go on: makeshift and a bit awkward. Over the hour, Page makes complicated things simple and simple things complicated – just like his show title.

Nonetheless, strap in for a ridiculous hour: think Rick and Morty’s Interdimensional Cable in real life, mashed together with dad joke style stand-up sitting on a cracker thin factual basis. Page jumps from space facts to impressions of talking pizza and remember Stars in Their Eyes? That’s in there too. This show is an explosion of Joey Page’s brain and you can see the fun obscurity of it spilling out on to the stage.

Page’s show is an great example of surreal comedy. His impression of Mars is downright hilarious and as daft as this show is, you really will ponder over some of Page’s questions, like, did dinosaurs have penises? This is a fun show which is surprisingly and neatly tied together.

Perhaps Under Stars That Would Stretch Forever (an Idiot Explains the Universe in Under an Hour) is not for everyone. Page is in no way highbrow, his comedy doesn’t set out to be controversial or challenging, and not all the jokes will have you laughing out loud but this is a show with charm, a performer with a strong handle on his craft, and an hour of joyful escape.
