Review: The George Michael Songbook at The A Club in Merchants' Hall

Grant Macintosh celebrates George Michael’s music with numbers that span his career including a beautiful rendition of Jesus to a Child and Careless Whisper.

Grant Macintosh pays tribute to George Michael in the George Michael Songbook, a beautiful homage to the much loved musician. Macintosh boasts a truly excellent vocal range and manages to mimic George Michael’s distinctive sound from his early days through to his more mature years. More than a tribute performance, when you close your eyes it’s difficult to believe that it is not George Michael himself up on stage.

Thoughtfully dedicated Praying for Time to charity Musicians Against Homelessness, Macintyre’s performance is touching and tender. However, he also knows how to ramp up the energy, stepping back to the Wham days with an upbeat rendition of I’m Your Man. This was a personal favourite moment of mine – and certainly seemed to be a favourite amongst the crowd, too.

Expect to spend the full hour and half captivated.
