Real life couple Valorie Curry and Sam Underwood take on award winning playwright Nick Payne’s One Day When We Were Young in this heartfelt performance about love lost to war.
Violet and Leonard’s love story is presented in snippets, ephemeral moments in time that take the audience from the awkwardness of young love through to the hardships of old age in a heart-breaking journey. Through time jumping, we get a glimpse of how much Violet and Leonard’s lives have changed since the fateful night the play opens with. Yet, also, how they haven’t moved on.
Curry and Underwood require only of a quick costume change and their own acting prowess to convey the passage of time, the impact of war and the grief of not-so-lost love. Their chemistry is palpable, beautifully bringing the story to life and the audience to tears, despite the predictable plot.
