Experienced character comic Tom Binns presents gently spoken psychic Ian D Montfort. Part spoof TED talk, part audience psychic reading, the show is absurd and quick witted. Ian is unconvincing as a psychic and slips into his old preying, bumbling tendencies, yet, just when we least expect it, shocks us with seemingly unexplainable tricks.
The show relies heavily on audience participation and luckily there are a few willing members with entertaining stories. However, some of the moving back and forth between people and organising props can make the show a little slow.
While Binns is skilled in portraying the nuances of Ian’s character, it does not appear to be the best performance from his long career. Still, the show produces frequent hilarity in the audience and Binns’ ability to flexibly portray his character is unique and impressive.
