Dan Schreiber, former Q.I “elf” and producer of Radio 4’s Museum of Curiosity takes us on an enjoyable, low-key journey through his realisation that he is in fact a bona-fide geek. An intensely likeable presence, he seems to win the crowd over in his first few exchanges, with his self-deprecating anecdotes and discussion of the most absurd facts that he’s come across.
This is a sort of pleasant afternoon stroll of a show- rarely challenging or uproarious, but always engaging and interesting. One can’t help but admire his sheer passion for the way the world works and the little known stories from the fringes of society. One in particular, about a seaweed expert at Bletchley Park is genuinely astonishing. Some sections fall flat, mostly the bawdier bits and there are definite periods of real lull.
Ultimately though, this is a thoroughly assured debut dip into stand-up and his engaging personality and genuine love for his subject matter make for an absorbing, light-hearted hour.
