When you choose to go and see a musical-comedian who’s attempting to transport you to superbly tacky Vegas (from a tightly packed room in an attic in Edinburgh) you’re choosing, no doubt, to expect the unexpected. Chortle genius Parris will immediately put your mind at rest – equally as gifted at making you laugh your pants off as she is at reaching the high notes whilst changing personas.
Both thoroughly tongue in cheek as she is delightfully provocative, Rachel applies all her own rules to stand up. The star of Nevada dons sequins to beard stubble, whilst mocking celebrity culture and phony feminists. She talks gambling obsessions, toy boys, banter merchants and seriously soft hair; whilst managing to sing about half of that too. By the grand finale you’ll know who she is but she’ll have no idea who you are. And that, of course, is the way it should be.
