Peculiar, wacky and full of energy; Daniel Roberts is a memorable experience this Fringe. A costumed-bear sits morosely at the front with electro dance music blaring as you enter the venue – an indication of the surreal experience to come.
Roberts acts out various dysfunctional personas over the course of his sketch. Crowd favourites included a cook from the United States Army with his patriotic recipes (burgers and more burgers) and an introverted romance novelist whose steamy love scenes never quite match up to the likes of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
Unfortunately, some of the gags didn’t achieve their full potential and were met with awkward or forced laughs. However, the fast-paced nature of the show meant that these moments were never dwelled on.
Roberts will keep audiences intrigued and entertained, but go with an open mind to fully enjoy the oddities of his multiple personalities.
