Dolly Wants To Die is a dark comedy that takes the perspective of a very socially aware doll who wants to die and her teddy bear friend, Mr Bear. The pair cleverly explore the current cultural climate and the state of happiness from an unusual point of view.
It may be a little pessimistic but the show manages to keep a light-hearted atmosphere throughout with witty satire and intelligently comical observations. Definitely not for a young audience, we watch Dolly’s multiple attempts to kill herself, and Mr Bear’s multiple attempts to cheer her up through dance, while blocking out his own despair with drugs.
Both performers give a convincing portrayal despite Mr Bear being unable to speak. Dolly Wants To Die is a funny and original piece that is entertaining and well-developed throughout.
