Late Night Lip Service is what a night out at the Fringe is all about. Hosted by the ever fabulous glamazon, Gingzilla, and featuring an array of guests from across the Festival each night, it’s got the kind of raucous, sexy, seedy energy you can’t help but want to have a part in.
It might not kick off until the witching hour, but the room is fully packed as we walk in to see all seven feet of Gingzilla – plus platform heels – be-masked onstage. This striking look is perfectly suited to the show, but it’s a shame that it’s not given the entrance it deserves – a spotlight stride on to the stage in that get up would have had an otherworldly impact. The opening number, Sunshine of Your Love, gets everybody going and gives our host the chance to show off her pipes before we get going. Everybody already loves her. She already knows.
Gingzilla’s chat is consistently hilarious, but her costume changes are next level and her White Rabbit performance, dressed in a pink tartan Vivienne-Westwood-meets-Alexander-Mcqueen ensemble is a particular highlight. The guest line up changes, but expect appearances from the gaudiest, most outrageous stars Edinburgh has to offer, as well as the chance to lip-sync for your lives in the ultimate competition for all Drag Race fans.
Different each time, I advise you to make it part of your weekly calendar for August. There’s no other night like it.
