Dogstar Theater Company have brought acclaimed, Mungo Park to the Edinburgh Festival. The play is an exciting retelling of 18th century Scottish explorer Mungo Park’s travels into the heart of Africa in an attempt to chart the flow of the river Niger. The performance is politically charged and heart-warming, often funny and, ultimately, tragic.
The highlight of the performance is undoubtedly the stage presence of the actors and their ability to tell the story, each portraying a number of characters whilst making it accessible to the audience.
The visuals, although simple, are amazing and the stage itself is key to the captivating success of the performance. The lighting and sound are truly spectacular, giving the story pace and a contemporary feel.
A triumph of political theatre, Mungo Park will not disappoint.
