Shakespeare For Breakfast TweetShareSharePin0 SharesEvery summer for the past 25 years, C Theatre has served up its anarchic re-workings of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays to early-morning Edinburgh audiences, and every year we come back, hungry for more. This time, A Midsummer Night’s Dream gets the treatment, in a cosmic mash-up with Star Wars and reality TV, filtered through social media and liberally sprinkled with pop-culture references. The original play’s blend of magic, fantasy and mischief proves a fine backdrop against which star-cross’d lovers can strut and spar and spout their couplets. The rhymes might be more McGonagall than Shakespeare in places, but there’s no denying the skill and energy of the cast or the fun they have on stage, in a performance that’s brimming with fizzing wit and infectious humour. The bard himself, you suspect, would be delighted.
