The brainchild of comics Chris Cantril and Amy Gledhill, The Delightful Sausage is a satire of community college courses, enforced workplace seminars and cringe-worthy educational school theatre, all rolled into one.
It draws its inspiration from alternative comedy royalty. There’s an absurd, possibly specifically Northern, turn of phrase that’s straight out of Vic and Bob, with the forced enthusiasm being pure ‘Legs Akimbo’. There’s a slightly underused stab at multi-media, and a few over-set up sketches. However, despite not every gag landing, you’re witnessing the Fringe debut of very a special partnership.
It’s not quite fully formed but, at heart, it’s a well-pitched satire of those failed actors and public speakers who are trapped grinning and bearing their way through their lives. In essence, its one of the best adverts for modern alternative comedy you could ever wish to see.
