The Bookbinder

The Bookbinder

A traditional take on storytelling, The Bookbinder may be targeted at children but draws in a largely adult audience too with it’s comforting style and intriguing tale.

Performed by Ralph McCubbin Howell and a host of simple, yet effective, props, The Bookbinder follows the tale of an apprentice bookbinder who is sucked into a magical book and must repair its literary world to return home. The beautifully made pop-up book prop works wonderfully here: in the style of classic, gothic style illustrations inspired by traditional fairy tales, McCubbin Howell manipulates the 3D drawings to add a visual edge to his excellent storytelling.

While the story itself follows quite a standard plot narrative, it’s told with an exciting edge that’s sure to appeal to older children with a taste for the darker spectrum of fairy tales.
